Welcome! My name is Janet Parkinson. My husband Rick and I have spent most of our professional lives working with families struggling during life's most stressful and overwhelming times. My own struggles while caring for my aging parents compelled us to start Caring Transitions. As our company's name implies, we help people who are transitioning from one phase of life to another.
Caring for my own parents has reminded me of the essential importance of a rule that has always guided my actions: The Golden Rule, arguably the most important ethic for the modern concept of human rights and compassion. Can you imagine how much better our world would be if everybody agreed to treat others in a manner that they themselves wished to be treated? Caring Transitions is guided by this precept. It is not a flowery ideal that I am casually mentioning for affect and the quickly forgotten. The Golden Rule is my personal compass, and also Caring Transitions'. It directs our actions as we work with people, forming the types of relationships that good businesses necessarily have.
Transitions come in many forms. Retirees and "empty nesters", no longer needing the homes they purchased to raise families, often choose to downsize into smaller living spaces to reduce cost, time, and the taxing exertion required maintaining a larger home. The upheaval of divorce is a different type of transition, and so is work related relocations, each with its own set of challenges.
The type of transitions that eventually affect every family are those caused by life changing events such as the death of a family member, serious illness, or an injury that upsets life's fine balance, reducing a person's ability to live independently. During these traumatic, emotional, stress-filled times it is difficult figuring out what needs to be done. People often do nothing because they don't know where to start, which worsens the situation because many of the tasks demanding attention have time requirements. Caring Transitions helps families, or anyone needing assistance, cope with the need to downsize, move, and disperse or liquidate personal property.
Caring Transitions can help by doing any of the following:
- Sorting and De-cluttering
- Downsizing
- Packing and Moving
- Liquidate personal property
- Estate/Tag Sales and On-Line Auctions
- Disperse personal property
- Repair, paint, clean-up
- Prepare the old home for resale or re-occupancy
We will strive to minimize your stress, and help you through a difficult time. Let us shoulder the burden. Delegation is the secret to maintaining one's emotional balance and family relationships, which can become frayed. Whatever part of the task you don't want to do, or don't have time to do, delegate that to us so that you can work on those things that can't be delegated. We'll work with you to formalize a clear plan with a timetable that suits your needs. You tell us. It's done. It's that simple.
Respectfully and efficiently, we work with estate executors, family members, and friends of the family, organizing and dispersing the estate as directed. If conducting your estate sale, we promote the sale to draw a lot of buyers to get maximize value for your property. When needed, we can handle the painting, repairs, the clean-up, hauling away trash, and sweep it out, preparing the house for resale or reoccupation. We can be your on-site manager, coordinating whatever needs to be done.
Call us today to schedule a FREE in-home consultation at the end of which we will be able to provide you with an individualized blueprint with completion timeframes.

| Are You Considering an Estate Sale?
|
|
|
No matter what you’re shopping for, it makes good sense to look for the best deal. But, what is the best deal when it comes to estate sales?
Let’s make a list of what most people want from an estate sale:
· They want the most for their property
· They want a 100% liquidation of the property they need to part with
· They want quality service and overall value as defined by:
1. Honest, knowledgeable professionals
2. Personnel who are guided by the Golden Rule, as evidenced by sympathy, compassion, patience, flexibility, good communication and timely follow-up
For the best experience with an estate sale each of these should be valued and desired somewhat equally. However, “getting the most money” seems to always become the number one factor when deciding which company to choose. It’s natural, and there’s nothing wrong with this as long as you don’t think that you are going to get the most money for your property solely because the company is going to work for a lower commission. Beware of companies who promise to work for the lowest commission.
Our methods are labor intensive, take more time, more energy, and they work. Shoppers consistently tell us that they like our sales. They tell us that what we do is different, and that it is a positive contrast as compared to other estate sales. We are confident that this difference generates a significantly larger gross dollar amount at the end of the sale, meaning our clients “walk away” with more money.
Again, beware of companies who promise to work for the lowest commission.

It is with great pleasure that I recommend Rick and Janet Parkinson of Caring Transitions to you. We feel that we were very fortunate to have found them in our quest to downsize our mother’s living arrangements. They both proved to be very efficient, caring and competent in taking care of our needs.
My brother, who lives out of state, contacted Rick when we were ready to move our mother into an addition to our home with my husband and me. We knew that we couldn’t take all of her belongings but really had no idea where to begin. Rick was very knowledgeable and eager to search out solutions that would best suit our needs. He met with us several times and took an inventory if my mother’s belongings. He made thoughtful suggestions and estimates about the value of items and what we could logically expect from the estate sale after researching the internet and contacting other individuals about market value of some of my mother’s things. He and Janet came to my mother’s house to sort through everything, washed all the glassware, displayed the items neatly with price tags and organized everything in a way that would have taken us months to accomplish. They handled everything from start to finish in just a few weeks!
Rick was very helpful in finding a painter for us and making sure that the job was done properly. Whatever we needed or wanted him to do, he was willing. We never felt pressured into anything and it was always presented with the knowledge that we made the final decisions. He tailored his services to suit our needs, and that was very important to us and my mother. I don’t think that we could have ever found another company or individuals that would have made us feel so totally at ease with the whole process. Our whole family felt that Rick and Janet were both honest and forthright in all aspects of our contract and we were completely satisfied. It was a difficult process for us to even consider and they took the weight off our shoulders. We enjoyed each meeting with them and felt that we were “old” friends right from the start. They both seemed to enjoy the job and getting to know us through the things that our family had acquired over the 55 years of living in the home where we were raised.
I feel certain that our experience with Rick, Janet and Caring Transitions was one that will be repeated again and again with each client that they assist and my mother, brother and husband all feel the same way. We are completely comfortable recommending them to anyone who is in need of direction and guidance for an estate sale or other endeavor, and I feel certain that you will be as pleased with them as we have been! Please feel free to contact me if you have any questions.
Sincerely,
Fredna B.
